Tell me a story by heart
Of peoples and kingdoms torn apart
Of lovers torn,
Of legends reborn,
Using our modern arts
Weave me a tale from the soul
Of struggle, of triumph, of hope
Through which we endure
Deception and war
Depicted through arts that we hold
Bring all your worlds to life
Show their beauty and strife
Put meaning to skill
And let your heart will
What paints on your canvas be right

It's not the most creative thing in the world but it came to me. It really shakes me up when people demand cartoons and video games not be considered art, and therefore, not considered sources of communicating deep and weighty subjects. There is absolutely no reason why they can't be, I think some people would just rather they not be. I wrote an entire blog entry about how disgusted I am with people's lack of want to take anything seriously, it seems like art of all kinds is just their way of goofing off. Obviously, there are people who put some soul into their work, but they seem few and far between. It seems that taking yourself and your art, no matter what kind it is (Yes video games are art), seriously has become taboo because it would do something scary like enrich our culture. Can't have that, can we?
The main reason I want to make games is because I want to make an interactive world where I can share some of my philosophical and ethical beliefs while at the same time creating scenarios in which they make sense. Despite my considerably vast vocabulary, I struggle with words, so I want to tell these stories through vision and sound; especially music, the most beautiful, the most diverse, the most effective method of sharing and experiencing emotions.
I will tell my stories by heart, and I will speak freely of my mind in them. I will also speak honestly; I will not deliberately lie to anyone experiencing the message, nor will I intend to push it, I want to make it as natural as human speech, for it to play on human nature, for it to be enjoyable yet thought-provoking, pleasant and relaxing yet clear of its intent. It will not be an attempt at propaganda, it will not be a preachy after school special of lofty and unrealistic ideals, it will be a piece of art that is crafted from my soul, with personal touches and a lot of consideration put into it, and it will not be meant to be some kind of religious text that is absolute and correct, it is merely meant to be a way for me to share my heart with others, my ideas, my experiences, and it is meant to be filtered and analyzed as any other piece of information in the world.
I don't want to write the Bible, I just want to create things with personal meaning, I want to make beautiful things that would make it easier to understand me, that would allow a player to explore portions of my soul, a method of deep communication where someone cannot merely look at a piece of art, but hear it, touch it, experience it, and enjoy it on a more personal, interactive level.
This is my ultimate dream, my long-term goal. It might be far off, but it's what I've always wanted to do, to reach out to people and, maybe one day, a sect of video game developers will create such things as well, where we can interact with their labors of the heart and communicate our experiences, emotions, and thoughts on an entirely unique and more effective manner.
There's nothing wrong with having big dreams.
