Fuck your childhood.

Your childhood was not better than anyone else's and everyone needs to stop recreating things based on their childhood memories, especially with video games, because it isn't being helpful, it's just the creators being obsessed with nostalgia, and nostalgia is a ridiculous thing to be obsessed with. The idea of trying to preserve dated concepts to the point where they bog down innovation in the creative media for the sake of nostalgic memories is pathetic, damaging, and anyone who does this should be ashamed of themselves.

The rest of us would greately appreciate it if you'd stop ruining the gaming industry for us just because you can't deal with modern advances like cutscenes, stop saturating the cartoon industry just because drawing that obnoxious and generic style Walt Disney developed reminds you of when you were 5, and stop complaining about how everything was better in whatever decade you were born in than it is now. Everything looked better when you were a kid and didn't have a job or responsibilities (Don't even joke with me about school; that's not a responsibility, it's a glorified babysitting service) and we all felt the same fucking way, it has nothing to do with what generation you're apart of.

I'm fed up with going on forums and hearing a bunch of cranky assholes whine because Mario Sunshine was too open-world and didn't have Goombas in it or Sonic's too serious now, or that games are 3D and SO MUCH MORE CONFUSING than sidescrollers, and why won't these kids get off their lawns? They never have a good reason for bitching about these things other than "It wasn't like this in the 80s/90s" or some equally retarded bullshit like "It makes it less like a game" Nevermind they never specify how, except maybe "It has cutscenes and I HAVE TO WAIT OMG" God forbid you'd ever have to exercise an intention span longer than a toddler. Can't you people grow the fuck up already and stop ruining shit for the rest of us?

  1. Totally agree with that first part, I see this in plenty of AAA games.. designers don't seem to learn quickly enough, also, responsibility is really really important since, like, small changes affect every single gamer/customer and all.

There's things like the button sequence event (bad game design, no no no!) which get repeated like it's hip and cool, and then any serious attempts at adult themes e.g. God of War 3, Mass Effect 3... are just really bad. I'm comparing them to film because well, they have MORE of a technical scope to play with to make the game take itself seriously. (But ME3, Heavy Rain.. in every single aspect the creators fail to do this, and just end up going off on their own vector past a certain point.. ME3 ending is an example where designers go "oh hey wouldn't it be cool to do this" and then it's a flop b/c they rolled it out en masse without contemplating, working on it.. budgets aside of course..)

Yeah you are right about the childhood wonder/rose tinted glasses. Psychology again. One thing I want to exploit there... you feel secure when you don't have to manage everything yourself. If an AI handles X events using some sort of filter... your character can go do some jousting or play with cards or whatever and have a worried NPC come and warn you about enemies. = epic immersion?

    1. I'm kind of confused about what you mean, sorry. Would you mind elaborating for me?
